greta_christina.jpgWhy are you atheists so angry? The atheist movement is often accused of being driven by anger. What are so many atheists so angry about? Is this anger legitimate? Do the firebrands and diplomats in our community deal differently with this anger – and how can those differences be resolved? And can anger be an effective force behind a movement for social change? Join us as we resume our monthly meetings on Sunday, September 18, with our special guest speaker Greta Christina, who will address these and other questions.

When most of us think of atheist bloggers, three names come to mind: PZ Myers, Hemant Mehta, and Greta Christina. Greta resides with her wife in San Francisco and is one of the most widely-read and well-respected bloggers in the atheist community.

She is the regular atheist correspondent for AlterNet, the online political magazine with over 1,200,000 hits a week, and has been writing about atheism and skepticism for her own blog (freethoughtblogs.com/greta) since 2005.

Her writing has appeared in numerous magazines, newspapers, and anthologies, including Ms., Skeptical Inquirer, the Chicago Sun-Times, and the anthology Everything You Know About God Is Wrong.

Greta Christina has been writing professionally since 1989, on topics including sexuality and sex-positivity, LGBT issues, politics, culture, and whatever crosses her mind. She is an experienced and entertaining public speaker, who has been doing public speaking for many years. Next year, she will be a speaker at the Reason Rally in Washington, D.C.

In our efforts to “share the wealth” (of talent), we are trying to book Christina for additional speaking engagements in Minnesota while she’s here, primarily on college campuses. As we go to press, plans are underway for her to speak for the Secular Student Alliance at Saint Cloud State University on Monday, September 19.

Please join us as we start our new season of speakers on a definite high note!  Afterward, we will dine at Q. Cumbers Restaurant.
